ABV Calculator: OG to FG with Hydrometer Adjustment
Enter values above

How It Works

The ABV calculator uses the formula: ABV = (OG – FG) * 131.25. However, since hydrometers are calibrated to 15.5°C, a temperature adjustment is made to the original and final gravity readings before calculating the ABV.

How to Use

  • Enter the original gravity (OG) of your beer.
  • Enter the final gravity (FG) of your beer.
  • Enter the temperature at which you took the gravity readings.
  • Click the “Calculate ABV” button or press enter in any of the input fields to calculate the ABV.

Common Questions

What is the significance of temperature in hydrometer readings?

Temperature affects the density of the liquid, which in turn affects the hydrometer readings. The temperature adjustment is necessary to ensure accurate gravity readings and subsequently accurate ABV calculations.
