Negroni
An equal-parts structure that connects bitterness, sweetness and dilution.

Ingredients
- gin30 ml
- Campari30 ml
- sweet red vermouth30 ml
Quantities scale proportionally. Ice, garnish and “to top” amounts depend on the glass. Prepare individual portions when a shaker or mixing glass cannot hold the full batch.
Garnish: Half an orange slice.
Method

Put ice into an old-fashioned glass.

Measure the gin, Campari and vermouth into the glass.

Stir gently and add the orange garnish.

The learning point
Equal volumes do not mean equal flavour intensity. The bitter component can dominate even when the recipe uses a 1:1:1 ratio.

Changing several ingredients at once makes it hard to understand which change caused the result.
