Refractometer Calculator (Brix to SG, with Alcohol)
Enter values above

How It Works

The Refractometer Calculator uses the following formulas to calculate the specific gravity (SG) from Brix readings and the alcohol by volume (ABV) from the original gravity (OG) and final gravity (FG):

Brix to SG: SG = (Brix / (258.6 – ((Brix / 258.6) * 227.1))) + 1

ABV calculation: ABV = (OG – FG) * 131.25

How to Use

  • Enter the Brix reading from your refractometer
  • Enter the original gravity (OG) and final gravity (FG) of your beer
  • Click the “Calculate” button to calculate the ABV and update the OG and FG fields
  • Alternatively, enter the OG and FG values and the calculator will calculate the ABV and update the fields

Common Questions

What is the difference between Brix and SG?

Brix and SG are both units of measurement for the sugar content of a liquid. Brix is a unit of measurement that represents the percentage of sugar in a solution, while SG is a unit of measurement that represents the density of a liquid relative to water.
